MUSIC TEACHER, LOWER SCHOOL

The Rudolf Steiner School, the first Waldorf school in North America, in the heart of Manhattan, NY, is seeking an experienced Waldorf educator to be part of its music faculty for the 2012-2013 school year.

The Steiner School is a fully accredited Nursery through 12th Grade school with a respected music education program in place. The Lower School Music Teacher is responsible for teaching music to classes one through six and for participating in and coordinating the activities related to vocal and instrumental music in these classes. These activities include class and school concerts, recitals, assemblies and private instrumental lessons. The Lower School Music Teacher works closely with the Upper School Music Teacher, the lower school faculty and staff, accompanists and instrumental teachers who teach individual students at the school. Depending upon the skills and experience of the selected candidate, there may be departmental administration included in this position.

Candidates are expected to have the following skills and qualifications:
•Significant music teaching experience, preferably in a Waldorf school
•Knowledge of a musical repertoire for students which is musically and developmentally appropriate
•Ability to work sensitively and successfully with students of varying ages
•Excellent communication and organizational skills
•Interpersonal skills which enable successful work with colleagues and community members
•Ability to manage and find joy in a busy schedule
•Proficiency with email and word processing

Area: The Rudolf Steiner School is located on Manhattan’s Upper East Side near many world-class museums and other cultural destinations. The Lower School (N-grade 6) is housed in an historic mansion on East 79th Street; the Upper School (grades 7-12) is one block away on East 78th Street. The School is half a block from Central Park, where the children play every day and where some of our festivals are held. There is easy access to public transportation.

Compensation: Competitive salary with increments for experience; excellent benefits.
