Upper School Chair
Nov 02 2011 | Rudolf Steiner School | New York, New York
The Rudolf Steiner School, the first Waldorf school in North America, in the heart of Manhattan, NY, is seeking an experienced Waldorf educator and administrator to be part of its leadership. The Steiner School is a fully accredited Nursery through 12th Grade school. The Upper School Chair is responsible for supporting teachers in administrative and educational matters in grades nine through twelve. This person facilitates clear, effective communication among faculty and between faculty and other School and community constituencies. He or she receives questions and concerns from faculty, staff, and parents, and works toward resolution while always encouraging direct, healthy communication between teachers and parents. The Chair helps problem-solve difficulties with and questions about curriculum and methods, school programs (e.g., Student Support Services and Social Inclusion), individual children, parents, work load, and professional development.
The Upper School Chair works closely with the leadership in the other areas of the school to foster healthy school governance.
Candidates must have the following skills and qualifications:
• Significant Waldorf teaching experience with a deep understanding of and ability to articulate Steiner’s educational principles in every-day language
• Excellent communication skills, including public speaking, writing, and diplomacy
• Strong working knowledge of organizational planning, meeting facilitation, school and personnel management
• Ability to think strategically with a vision for the future
• Interest in and knowledge of issues and trends in education today
• Proficiency with email and word processing
Area: The Rudolf Steiner School is located on Manhattan’s Upper East Side near many world-class museums and other cultural destinations. The Upper School is housed in a historic mansion on East 78th Street; the Lower School is one block away on East 79th Street. The School is half a block from Central Park, where some of our festivals are held. There is easy access to public transportation.
Compensation: Competitive salary with increments for education and experience. This is a twelve-month position and will be remunerated accordingly. Excellent benefits.
Contact: Please submit to the College of Teachers a letter of interest, a short biography, resume, and two references. Attn: Samantha Margles, by mail or fax (212) 794-1554; or e-mail to USChairSearch@steiner.edu.
