French Language Teacher

Great River School is seeking a French teacher for September 2012, to teach grade 1 to grade 5. The ideal candidate will have completed formal Waldorf teacher training as well as completed teaching practicums on a Waldorf setting, along with a university degree (preferably in fine arts, languages, teaching, sociology or psychology). The candidate will also be a native French speaker and will have a willingness to work collegially. Additional languages, experience working with children and work in the voluntary sector will be considered as assets but are not mandatory. Preference will be given to a candidate with previous teaching experience working at Great River School.
Great River School is committed to Waldorf education and its language program is enriched through song, movement, poems and drawing in order to foster a joy in the experience of learning another language while building conversational techniques and general reading ability.
The ideal candidate is expected to carry the assigned teaching load to combined grades (grade 1, grade 2/3, grade 4/5), build lessons based on the Waldorf Curriculum guidelines and deliver them in a lively, dynamic and structured class environment, as well as assign and correct homework, evaluate student progress and discuss student results with students, parents and faculty peers. A weekly faculty meeting is to be attended for artistic renewal classroom sharing, child study and administrative work. Participation in community events and festivals is required to provide meaningful settings for children's activities. As well as, carry some administrative duties within the school when necessary and provide supervision duties in the school yard or inside the school, such that children are supervised at all times.
