First Grade

First Grade Teacher

The Detroit Waldorf School is seeking a 1st grade teacher for the upcoming 2012/2013 school year. The ideal candidate would be enthusiastic and warm; has strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; and has excellent social skills and experience in welcoming and working with children and parents. We are looking for candidates with Waldorf teacher training certification, a Bachelors of Arts degree, and teaching experience.
About us: The Detroit Waldorf School, founded in 1965, is located just three miles east of downtown in the city’s historic Indian Village neighborhood. The school building was signed by renowned architect Albert Kahn and is surrounded by four acres of beautifully landscaped grounds. This central location, combined with the school’s curriculum, provides the diverse student body with a respect for people of different religious, ethnic, racial and socio-economic backgrounds, while fostering a sense of world citizenship.
Compensation: Faculty compensation includes increments for Waldorf teaching experience, as well as tuition remission and medical benefits. The position begins mid-August 2012.
Hiring Process: Qualified candidates will be invited to schedule a hiring visit. Travel expenses are the responsibility of the applicant. The hiring process includes, but not limited to: an introductory campus tour, classroom observations, one or more teaching demonstrations presented by the candidate, and a hiring interview with members of the Personnel Committee and College of Teachers.
