Opportunity for a Waldorf School Leader
Portland Waldorf School seeks an energetic leader for the position of School Chair. The School Chair is responsible for overseeing business operations, enrollment, fund-raising and facilities in collaboration with the Pedagogical Chair, College of Teachers and Board of Trustees.
About the Portland Waldorf School
Established in 1982, this fully accredited Waldorf School supports a full program of early childhood, grades and high school education. With an experienced and dedicated faculty, the school serves over 300 students and is involved in supporting Waldorf education in the northwest. It is located on a beautiful seven acre site featuring two creeks and a historic brick school building in Milwaukie, Oregon (an adjacent suburb of Portland). The Portland area is home to a thriving anthroposophical community including doctors, eurythmists and biodynamic farmers. Portland Waldorf School hosted the 2009 AWSNA annual summer conference and the 2011 Rudolf Steiner Birthday Conference and Annual General Meeting of the Anthroposophical Society.
About the position
The School Chair serves the entire school community by providing excellence in communication, management of administrative staff and close collaboration with the pedagogical realm. Supported by an active Leadership Council and experienced Pedagogical Chair, the School Chair works in a governance model based on principles of collaboration and consensus-driven policy decision-making. The position is directly accountable to the Board of Trustees and the College of Teachers.
What we are seeking
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong administrative leadership and experience in Waldorf education, a connection to anthroposophy, effective (demonstrable) communication skills both written and oral, (show) a history of achievement in an exciting and challenging environment, and have experience with (training in) governance and economic realms supporting the development of a three-fold social organization.
Application review will begin mid-November with the target of identifying candidates by January 13, 2012. Please direct letters of interest, resumes, references or questions to Bruce Evans, Board President: bruce.a.evans@gmail.com or Diane Rowley, Interim School Chair: diane.rowley@portlandwaldorfschool.org.
