Mountain Laurel Waldorf School is seeking a first grade class teacher for September 2012. The first grade class is comprised of enthusiastic, imaginative graduates from our two mixed-age kindergartens, as well as students new to the school. The hours with the class are 8:25 am to 12:25 pm. A separate afternoon teacher will carry the class for lunch, special projects and dismissal at 2:55 pm.
Mountain Laurel Waldorf School, a Nursery through Eighth Grade school, was founded in 1983 by a group of parents searching for an educational alternative for their children. The school is housed in a charming Victorian mansion, circa 1876, and is in walking distance from the village center of New Paltz, Historic Huguenot Street (the oldest street in America), the State University of New York (SUNY) campus and a large community playground where our elementary school children play. Our music program includes both, an after-school Chamber Group and Recorder Ensemble. The school currently has a mandate group system of governance and a committed College of Teachers. Our staff numbers near thirty, with an active and supportive Group of Trustees. Benefits include medical coverage, tuition remission and a continuing education stipend. Our salaries range from $31,350 to $41,500 with increments for full time Waldorf teacher experience.
Mountain Laurel Waldorf School, located in the beautiful Mid-Hudson Valley is approximately 90 miles from New York City. It is home to many active artist and ecological groups as well as the renowned Mohonk Mountain House skating pavilion and nature preserve. In addition, two major centers of Anthroposophical endeavor, Spring Valley with Sunbridge College and Hawthorne Valley, are within proximity. We also have a close connection with an active Anthroposophical healing center and study group in nearby Woodstock.
