Seventh Grade in Paradise!
Jan 04 2012 | Kona Pacific Public Charter School | Kealakekua, HI (Big Island)
Kona Pacific Public Charter School on the Big Island of Hawaii seeks an experienced Waldorf teacher for seventh grade next school year.
Kona Pacific is a four year old charter school inspired by Waldorf education, offering a comprehensive program that weaves together three strands:
A holistic education inspired by Waldorf education;
An educational program that embraces the values of Hawaiian culture, with particular focus on environmental education and community sustainability through understanding and respect for the people, land and sea of Hawai'i; and
A curriculum rich in the life-sustaining practices of farming and gardening that are a vital part of Hawai‘i Island life.
Our school serves a diverse population that might not otherwise have access to a Waldorf-inspired curriculum. Approximately 70% of our students are eligible for free/reduced cost lunch, and 15% come from families where English is not the primary language.
Located in the heart of Kona Coffee country, our campus is situated on a 40 acre-property with a magical forest, sacred Hawaiian sites, and school gardens. The campus overlooks the Kona Coast—where glorious sunsets, natural beauty, and world-class snorkeling, scuba and kayaking are only minutes away. Cool breezes, moderate year-round temperatures, and the warm aloha spirit of “Old Hawaii” provide a comfortable, inspiring, and supportive environment.
The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of Waldorf education, and will be a consummate professional with a passion for co-creating, collaboration, and teamwork. We look to our teachers to lead in parent education and to develop a strong community around our school that is supportive of the education.
Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree, Waldorf credential or equivalent experience, 2 years experience working with children.
Desirable qualifications include: extensive teaching experience, state teaching credential.
Competitive compensation, state benefits and yearly professional development opportunities.
Contact: We appreciate receiving applications via email, though we will accept faxes at (808) 322-4906. Please send a cover letter and resume to hiring@kppcs.org. Please indicate “Seventh Grade” in the subject line of the email. You will be contacted by a member of the Hiring Committee if we are interested in pursuing your application.
