The Brooklyn Waldorf School is seeking a full time kindergarten teacher for the 2012-13 school year. Qualified candidates will have completed their Waldorf Early Childhood teacher training and have experience in the classroom. Candidates should be enthusiastic about our diverse, urban setting and preferably be familiar with city life.
Candidates should be able to lead a classroom of children with warmth, joy and reverence. We request those who can also work harmoniously and respectfully with their assistant, other colleagues and parents. Candidates should be proficient in storytelling, circle-time, singing, and other creative aspects of the kindergarten day. In addition to the kindergarten morning, teachers attend two weekly meetings, hold weekly office hours for parents and may also serve on a committee.
Now in its seventh year, The Brooklyn Waldorf School is in a period of sustained growth and expansion. The 2012-2013 academic year will be our second at our new permanent location, a historic property known as Claver Castle, where we will offer the full Waldorf curriculum complete with gym, theater and outdoor space. The Brooklyn Waldorf School is a full member of WECAN and an AWSNA developing school
Brooklyn is currently a very exciting place to live. It is a cultural and creative hot spot, with people from all over the world living and working together. The proximity of the attractions of Manhattan, Prospect Park and a variety of neighborhoods to live in make Brooklyn a very desirable destination.
We offer programs for Parent-Child, Nursery, Kindergarten, Grades 1-7, Home-schooling, and after-school, as well as Foundation Studies and a rich adult education community. In addition to the class teachers, the lower school program is enriched by special subject teachers in music, eurythmy, handwork, woodwork, games, Spanish and Chinese. Our goal is to add a class each year, until we reach eight grades. Our mission is to bring Waldorf education to the Brooklyn community and to reflect the cultural, racial, and socio-economic diversity of Brooklyn in our community.
Competitive Salary Commensurate with experience. Benefits include health insurance and 401K.
