Lead Kindergarten Teacher 2012-2013

Jan 23 2012 | Mountain Laurel Waldorf School | New Paltz, NY

Mountain Laurel Waldorf School, located in New Paltz, NY is seeking an experienced, Waldorf trained lead kindergarten teacher for the 2012-2013 school year. The lead kindergarten teacher for this position will guide a mixed-age class of up to 18 children ranging from 3.5 – 6 years, with the support of an assistant.
Mountain Laurel Waldorf School was founded in 1983 by a group of parents searching for an educational alternative for their children. The school is housed in a charming Victorian home which is a short walk from the village center, Historic Huguenot Street (the oldest street in America). We’re in close proximity to the State University of New York (SUNY) campus, and a large community playground where our elementary school children play. Through an energetic spirit and an abundance of love and enthusiasm, our school has grown tremendously to include a parent child program, nursery, 2 mixed-age kindergartens and grades one through eight. Our music program includes both an afterschool chamber group and recorder ensemble. The school currently has a mandate group system of governance and a committed College of Teachers. Our faculty/staff numbers over thirty, with an active and supportive Board of Trustees. Benefits include medical coverage, tuition remission, a continuing education stipend and years-of-experience increments for salaried teachers with Waldorf experience.
New Paltz is approximately ninety miles from New York City. It is home to many active artists and ecological groups, as well as the renowned Mohonk Mountain House, skating pavilion and nature preserve. In addition, two major centers of Anthroposophical endeavor, the Threefold Educational Center in Chestnut Ridge/Spring Valley (with Sunbridge College), and the Hawthorne Valley Association in Ghent, New York, are approximately within a one hour driving distance. We also have a close connection with an active Anthroposophical healing center and study group in nearby Woodstock. We are currently interviewing prospective candidates with Waldorf teacher training. If you are interested in joining us at Mountain Laurel School, please post a letter of interest along with resume, which includes a biography and at least two references, to the attention of the Personnel Committee. You may also email your submission to mtlaurelwaldorf@aol.com. We look forward to hearing from you.
