School Custodian

Job Description Summary: The School Custodian is responsible for performing custodial duties, minor maintenance and other miscellaneous duties in order to ensure that building and grounds of Mountains Song Community School are maintained in a healthy, safe and sanitary manner. Supervises a part-time custodial assistant (20 hours per week) and a part-time daytime custodial assistant (5 hours per week).

Reports To: Business Manager
Job Status: Regular Full-time (nonexempt)

Essential Duties:
1. Oversight for the cleaning and care for the school building and grounds in order to ensure they are maintained in a safe and healthy manner:
Mop tile and concrete floor areas
Vacuum all carpeted areas
Wash and disinfect all washroom floors, toilets, toilet seats, hand dryers and fixtures Clean all mirrors
Replenish toilet tissue and soap as needed
Empty all waste baskets and garbage cans
Place garbage in outside storage bin
Clean entrance and exit including glass, doors and hardware
Keep outside area near exit and entrance clear of snow, cans, paper, etc.
Clean, wash and disinfect drinking fountains
Wash all finger marks from walls, doors, hardware and glass
Perform minor maintenance repairs
Clean kitchen sinks and counters
Report damages and acts of vandalism
Wash and buff floors with floor polisher
Wash entrance and exit floors
Spot clean walls and toilet partitions
Snow removal
General Carpentry
Furniture maintenance/repair
Maintenance of tools and machines

2. Maintain storage areas and cleaning equipment, materials and supplies in a safe and orderly manner in order to ensure the safety of staff and the public
Secure storage areas
Ensure cleaning materials and supplies are stored in a safe and orderly manner Maintain an adequate supply of cleaning materials and supplies
Restock materials and supplies
Make note of the need for equipment repairs

3. Primary contact and liaison:
District 11 Building Maintenance for all other building maintenance repairs
Snow removal contractor
Custodial Supply company

4. Supervises Part-time Custodial Assistants:
Assigns work
Assures quality of work completed
Monitors hours worked and signs off on time-cards

5. Participates on the School Safety Team

6. Perform other related duties as required

Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma - some training in industrial arts helpful
Knowledge of basic building systems
Knowledge of proper chemical storage
3-5 years building maintenance experience

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee frequently must squat, stoop or kneel, reach above the head and reach forward. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and climbs onto ladders. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job.
