Saltwater Waldorf School is looking for a dynamic, creative individual to join our team. This person will occupy two very important roles at the school. Position Summary for Preschool Assistant:
The Preschool Assistant will aid the Lead Teacher in carrying responsibility for the classroom (up to 12 children) on a day-to-day basis. The hours of employment will be 8:30 to 1:00 (Monday to Friday) with a half hour break for lunch.

This person will support the programs and activities planned by the Lead Teacher for each day by helping to set up the classroom and materials, prepare the snack/ craft materials, and care for the children. This person will be required to assist in activities, such as bread baking, painting and crafting. A willingness to create simple handwork or crafts in preparation for festivals and events is required. While experience is an asset, practical skills can be further developed as the year goes by.

As the Saltwater Waldorf School provides Waldorf education, the Preschool Assistant will be encouraged to learn about the essentials of a Waldorf classroom and to assist with these principles in mind.

Position Summary for After School Care Leader:
At 1:00 pm, the successful candidate will then transition to the After School Care leader. The Leader will supervise up to 8 children from Monday to Thursday between the hours of 1 and as late as 5:30 (end time subject to demand and needs of school families). There is no current need for After School Care on Fridays - however this could change based on demand.

We are looking for a creative person with the ability to set up and lead programs to support multi-aged children. The successful candidate will be expected to provide a simple snack, be able to facilitate crafts and games and make sure that children are properly clothed for outdoor activities.

Qualifications for Preschool Assistant and After School Care Leader:
Both positions require an Early Childhood Education Certificate or Diploma from an accredited institution and preferably 1 year of experience. The successful candidate will be asked to provide a valid criminal record check (obtained through the Ministry of Justice) prior to acceptance of this position. This position also requires a Standard First Aid Certificate. Waldorf training, or an interest in Waldorf learning and a desire to learn about Waldorf education is considered an asset.
Waldorf School are akin to living organisms where the health of the sum of the parts aids the health of the whole. Willingness and an ability to help with simple paperwork and administrative tasks are an asset as well.

Hours, Rate of Pay & Length of Year:
This person will work during school hours only over a 35 week period. School holidays include November teacher conference week, Christmas holidays, Teacher Conference Week in February and Spring Break. See school calendar for dates.

The Preschool Assistant Portion of the position will be paid a salary of $13,387.50/year (based on 4.5 hours/day for 35 weeks)

The Aftercare Leader portion of the position will be calculated hourly at $17/hour (estimated hours 3-5 hours/day)
