Learning Specialist

Hawthorne Valley Waldorf School, a nursery-12th grade Waldorf school located on a Biodynamic® farm in Ghent, NY – part of the beautiful Hudson Valley – is seeking a full-time learning specialist for the 2017-2018 school year.

The successful candidate will have a BA or BS degree and specialized training in one or more areas of remedial work from an accredited program. An MA in education with a specialization in remedial work is preferred. Examples of useful training modalities include: Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, and the equivalent in the area of mathematics. A Waldorf remedial training is also an excellent credential and if not already in place will be required as continuing education. The position includes a responsibility for some individual math and reading tutoring work as well as coordination and evaluation of students’ needs. Some evaluations will be accomplished by other specialists. Extensive familiarity with the Waldorf education curriculum and pedagogical model is critical.

Enthusiasm for working with a range of students in pre-k to high school from a variety of backgrounds is key.

Our school is located in the midst of a 900-acre Biodynamic farm and is part of the Hawthorne Valley Association, which includes a working farm and retail store, a year-round program for visiting students from the region, a Waldorf teacher training program, as well as other initiatives.
