Part-time Strings Teacher – 2017/2018

The Detroit Waldorf School is currently seeking an instrumental Music Teacher for Strings. The position includes 14 periods of instruction: Introductory violin instruction to third and fourth graders (8 periods); and strings instruction (including cello, viola, bass, and violin) to fifth through eighth grade students (6 periods). Interested applicants should be willing to be part of a team of teachers committed to creating a strong curriculum of age-appropriate learning.

This is a part-time position offering a competitive hourly rate. The required qualifications of a candidate are a B.A. as well as a State of Michigan Teaching Certificate in General Music or Instrumental Music. We value excellent teaching and classroom management skills, as well as an understanding of child development. We also seek a colleague committed to building strong collegial and parent relationships, and one who is committed to self-development.

This position requires adaptability and flexibility with scheduling and the ability to adjust instructional delivery to varying grade levels and student abilities. Familiarity with the Waldorf approach to the music curriculum and how it addresses the developing child is preferred; willingness to learn about this approach through professional development provided by the school is a necessary minimum requirement.
