Extended Day Lead Teacher/Early Childhood Assistant

The Extended Day Program supports students enrolled in Bright Water Waldorf School who stay beyond the end of the academic or programmatic day. The program’s goals are to provide a healthy environment that allows for nourishment, rest, play, social interaction and study as appropriate. These activities are to be consistent with the principles of Waldorf Education.

The Extended Day Lead Teacher holds overall responsibility to support the healthy development and progress of the students. The teacher represents the school to the parents of the children in Extended Day Program and communicates the program and practices of Extended Day to parents of students enrolled. The Extended Day Lead Teacher works with the Early Childhood faculty and all Extended Day staff and is responsible for the successful functioning of the program through support, active participation and timely completion of duties. The Extended Day Lead Teacher stands before the children as a loving , guiding authority. Scheduled hours during the school year are Monday through Friday from 11 – 6:15 p.m.

Required Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent
Strong teaching and student management skills
Strong interpersonal skills
Demonstrated ability to work in a group with collaborative skills
Previous experience with Extended Day or Summer Camp Programs for K-8
Previous work with children
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Strong organizational skills
Be adaptable; able to change work-plan according to daily program needs
Applicants must also:

Be able to lift 55 pounds
Be able to climb stairs
Have TB test clearance
Clear fingerprint background check
Have current CPR, first aid, and bloodborne pathogens training certificates
Have Food Handler's License
STARS basic training and annual STARS hours
Preferred Qualifications:
Waldorf Teaching Certificate or equivalent experience

Bright Water Waldorf School is located in a historic landmark building overlooking the north end of Seattle, Lake Union, and the Olympic Mountains. We have an enthusiastic, supportive parent group, an enrollment of approximately 170 students, and a faculty of 35. Seattle has a large independent school network whose administrative teams and teachers work collaboratively.
