First Grade

1st grade or Multi Grade Assistant

NUA Sparrow Charter School is seeking classroom assistants for the 2017-18 school year for grade 1 as well as a multi-grade academic tutoring assistant. The ideal aide will love working with children, have an understanding of Waldorf education, and work cheerfully with the lead teacher to support classroom activities. This person must be able to take direction easily, and apply individual initiative when needed. This is an hourly, part-time position for 20-25 hours per week, Monday through Friday.

About Sparrow:
Sparrow is a public charter school program guided by the core principles of Public Waldorf Education. The school is in its seventh year and has Grades TK-8, with 200+ students.

What we’re looking for in our assistants:
• Knowledge or training with Waldorf methods
• Experience with elementary aged children
• Academic skills in Language Arts, Writing and Math
• Behavior management that is neither permissive nor punitive, and that is based on developing the children’s intrinsic motivation
• Willingness to collaborate and be a reflective staff member
• Strong sense of self to be a model of truth, beauty, and love for the students
