After Care Assistant Teacher - 2017/18 School Year

Primary Function: To assist the Early Childhood Lead Teacher in accordance to methods and practices as indicated by WECAN and AWSNA and Waldorf Education; to nurture, protect and guide the children in their development through imitation of domestic, practical and artistic activities, through love and warmth, rhythm, and free, imaginative play.

Hours: 11:45am – 4:15pm Monday through Friday, during the regular school year (late August through mid-June)

Boulder Waldorf Kindergarten seeks an Early Childhood Assistant Teacher for our After Care program beginning in the Fall of 2017. Our After Care program serves approximately 16 children per day and is for children who have attended our morning program. The program includes lunch, rest and outdoor play. We have one Lead Teacher and two Assistant Teachers in our After Care program.

The Assistant Teacher reports directly to the Lead Teacher who is ultimately responsible for carrying out the pedagogical duties of the classroom.

The ideal candidate will have Waldorf training and/or experience and enjoy working with young children ages two-and-a-half to six. Ideal candidates are able to work well with colleagues and parents and have an appreciation for the importance of a soothing, nurturing and supportive afternoon rest time for young children.

Primary Functions
• To assist the Lead Teacher in the planning of each day, in the carrying out of the classroom program and activities and in the classroom management and supervision of a class of 15-18 children
• To take direction from the Lead Teacher regarding classroom management and day-to-day responsibilities according to the principles of Waldorf Education.
• Assist with snack preparations, practical and artistic classroom activities and play time
• Assist in presenting seasonal songs, stories and puppetry
• Maintain general order, cleanliness and aesthetics in classroom and campus
