Teach Spanish in Sunny San Diego

Sep 14 2017 | NUA Sparrow | La Mesa, Ca.

National University Academy (NUA) Sparrow Charter School is seeking a Spanish educator for grades K-8 who is enthusiastic about Waldorf education, experienced with elementary children, and knowledgeable and passionate about Spanish and Latin culture. This is a part time position teaching that could grow into a full time position, teaching 2 classes per grade per week, as well as one short class for Kinders.

In the early grades, we cultivate a love of languages and provide exposure to other cultures through games, songs, and poetry. In the older grades, we seek a higher level of fluency and mastery of vocabulary and grammar. Language teachers are integral members of the school’s teaching team, and are invited to all faculty meetings.

The ideal candidate will be a native speaker with experience teaching in a Waldorf classroom. A lovely singing voice and a dramatic flair are considerable assets for this position. Interest in understanding the character and capacities of each child is also important, as is the ability to work collegially with the other teachers.

About NUA Sparrow Charter School:
Founded in 2011, Sparrow is a public charter school that is guided by the core principles of a public Waldorf education. Currently with 250+ students, the classes range from grades K-8. All of the teachers at Sparrow are Waldorf trained or actively pursuing certification, and committed to Rudolf Steiner’s indications.

What we’re looking for in our Spanish teacher:
• Fluency in Spanish and familiarity with not only the mechanics of the language, but knowledge of the cultural experiences, songs, verses and art of people in countries around the world that speak Spanish.
• Experience and training with Waldorf teaching methods in Spanish
• Experience teaching elementary school
• Classroom management that is neither permissive nor punitive, and that is based on developing the children’s intrinsic motivation (based on methods of Positive Discipline in the Classroom by Jane Nelson)
• Willingness to collaborate and be a reflective teacher and staff member
• Strong sense of self to be a model of truth, beauty, and love for the students

As a staff, including part time faculty, we work closely together to support one another and our expanding program. As a close-knit group, we honor positive communication, and respect one another’s input. We are a group of forward-thinking, inspired, and committed individuals.
