High School

High School Chairperson

Oct 12 2017 | Monadnock Waldorf School | Keene

Monadnock Waldorf School seeks a full time High School Chairperson beginning June 2017. We seek an individual who can lead, coordinate, support, and manage the general daily life and business of a Waldorf high school, along with assuming some teaching duties. Working closely with the HS Leadership Group, College of Teachers, Administrator, Business Manager, and Admissions Director, the HS Chair leads and collaborates with students, parents, faculty, and staff in order to facilitate best outcomes for the high school. Teaching duties comprise part of the position and, based upon the candidate’s experience and capacities, may include morning lesson blocks and ongoing skills classes.

The ideal candidate will possess vision to lead our pioneering high school—now in its eighth year—into its next stage and have significant experience in teaching and administration in a Waldorf school. A candidate should be committed to and deeply knowledgeable about the philosophical foundation and pedagogical principles of Waldorf education—and dedicated to working out of those. A candidate should have enthusiasm for working with adolescents, a sense of humor—always invaluable—and a joy for life. S/he should possess tactful, effective, and comprehensive leadership skills; comfort and facility working in collaborative groups; and strong communication, speaking, writing, and computer skills. Candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree in a related area; Masters or PhD preferred. Additional interests and skills are a plus: theater, the arts, movement, outdoor education, or student social initiatives.

The HS Chair’s responsibilities fall into three areas: faculty/pedagogical leadership and support, administrative leadership and oversight, and parent/community relations. Working with the HS Leadership Group, the Chair leads and manages curriculum development, scheduling, HS faculty hiring, evaluation, substitution and professional development as well as student social and behavioral issues. With the HS Administrative Coordinator and staff, s/he leads, coordinates, and supports general and individual communication with parents and students. With the Business Manager, s/he provides timely budget information, requests, and updates to help build an accurate and responsible HS budget and oversee/insure budgetary compliance at the HS level.

This is a full-time position, which includes an area-competitive salary with generous tuition remission, health care, vacation and support for professional development.
