The board of directors of Sophia’s Hearth Family Center is seeking a new executive director. As our founding executive director retires, we are looking for an individual of vision and commitment to help lead a great institution to the next level. The new leader of Sophia's Hearth should recognize and respect our past successes while applying and developing our philosophy and approach, allowing us to reach new heights in the years to come.

About Sophia's Hearth Family Center
Founded nearly 20 years ago, Sophia’s Hearth Family Center has been a North American pioneer and leader in Waldorf early childhood education. Sophia’s Hearth draws from Waldorf education and the Pikler philosophy in working with young children and families while providing three distinct but complementary programs: full time early education for infancy through preschool, parent-child classes, and a WECAN recognized Waldorf training for early childhood teachers.

Position Summary
The executive director oversees the daily operations of Sophia’s Hearth and ensures that all programming is in alignment with the Sophia’s Hearth vision and mission. Together with the board of directors and administrative circle, the new executive director will be responsible for:
• Creating and expressing the future vision of Sophia’s Hearth;
• Hiring and retaining teachers for our on-site education program;
• Revitalizing our parent and child two-generation programming;
• Developing and monitoring the organizational budget;
• Overseeing fundraising activities;
• Leading marketing efforts;
• Collaborating with the administrative circle (Business Manager, Childcare Director, Director of Teacher Education, the Board of Directors and sub-committees)
• Other operational tasks as needed
• Salary range $40,000-$50,000

Ideal Qualifications, Experience and Leadership style
• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
• Demonstrated leadership or management experience with non-profit organizations, including but not limited to fundraising, budget creation, and financial monitoring
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills; capacity for setting and achieving goals
• Polished verbal and written communication skills;
• An approachable leadership style that values and practices individual diversity, engagement, and humility
• A commitment to the Sophia’s Hearth vision and mission, supported by an integrated respect for Waldorf early childhood education, the Pikler philosophy, and the presiding sense of supporting children and families on their journeys.
