HMS is Seeking a Director of Advancement - Full-Time Position
Position Summary
The Director of Advancement is responsible for developing and leading HMS’ advancement activities to increase the school’s resource base
through philanthropy. S/he reports directly to the Head of School and provides leadership, management, and vision for all aspects of HMS
advancement office. The Director of Advancement is a member of the Management Council, and works closely with the Head of School, the Board of Trustees, and other key leaders to support the strategic planning for the school as it relates to fundraising. S/he defines
funding opportunities that match HMS’ institutional priorities and strategically engages individuals to inspire and deepen their support.
 Develop an annual operating plan for advancement including Annual Fund, Major Gifts, Planned Giving, Capital Campaign, Endowment, other special campaigns and events.
 Implement effective strategies to achieve revenue goals and engagement targets
 Direct involvement and oversight of the Annual Fund, development events, corporate and foundation grants, planned giving, and capital campaign.
 Lead all aspects of the gift cycle for major donors:
o Identify, research and prioritize pool of prospective and active donors
o Develop appropriate cultivation strategies tailored specifically to each individual donor
o Engage volunteer leadership to facilitate the successful cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major gifts
o Maintain strong relationships with all donors, nurture and enhance relationships to serve the donor and the school
o Coordinate the fundraising efforts of the Head of School, Trustees, and volunteer leaders to achieve fundraising goals, including direct solicitation of donor base
o Build and personally manage a portfolio of 50-75 individual
major donors and prospects.
 Effectively communicate development opportunities and integrate messaging in HMS publications: case for support, grant proposals, newsletters, the annual report, digital communications, etc.
 Oversee the management of the constituent database, prospect
assignment and prospect management to ensure effectiveness across giving platforms.
 Serve as an ambassador for HMS through interactions with donors and prospects
 Promote a culture of philanthropy at all levels of the organization.
 Represent HMS at various events and meetings
 Maintain regular, consistent, and transparent progress reports to key
 Manage, mentor, and evaluate the advancement team
 Perform general management responsibilities, including annual plans,
budgets, monthly reports to the Head of School
 Manage all tools and software needed to fulfill the assignments
 Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School

The compensation for the Director of Advancement
position includes:
 Salary commensurate with experience
 Medical, dental, meal plan, tuition remission benefits
