Early Childhood Lead Teacher

Jan 10 2018 | Urban Prairie Waldorf School | Chicago, IL

To The Early Childhood Teacher: A Poem by Urban Prairie Waldorf School

Us in Chicago, we got it all,
Four distinct seasons and buildings real tall,
Creative thinkers and hard-working folks,
And ones that tell anthroposophical jokes.
Our grade school grows, through striving and heart.
We're ready now for a kinder to start.
Does building a program simply fill you with joy?
Might you be the one we're supposed to employ?
We just bought a building, so that's hard work, too,
But the sky's the limit, if we just had you.
Come join us! Pack up your silks and your lyre!
Be part of the spark that ignites Prairie fire.

Urban Prairie Waldorf School in Chicago’s west side seeks our first Early Childhood teacher to develop and lead our new Early Childhood Program.
We are a dynamic and forward-thinking Waldorf school that is supported by an involved community as well as a highly inspired, enthusiastic, and energetic faculty and administration. We are proud of our positive collegial relationships and an enjoyable work environment. Urban Prairie is an exciting and challenging environment to work in. We seek teachers who are passionate and committed to providing children with an exemplary Waldorf education. In support of our commitment and vision, we believe strongly in investing heavily in our employees, and offer an excellent compensation package including a competitive salary structure, medical and 401K benefits, annual professional development, and mentoring.
We currently serve grades 1-8 and feel the time has arrived to build our Early Childhood program. We recently purchased a new building, and in 2018-19 we will move into that new campus with 50,000 square feet of space, including 23 classrooms, a gym, science lab, kitchen, cafeteria and a large outdoor space waiting for the faculty to dream big. This building gives us room to start the EC program that will complete our educational offerings and provide greater enrollment stability. Our grade school curriculum also includes Eurythmy, Spanish, Mandarin, handwork, music, orchestra, movement, woodwork and other practical arts.

We are looking for an experienced Early Childhood teacher who can build a Waldorf Early Childhood program from the ground up, incorporating will-developed intelligence. This individual must enjoy working with parents as well as children. The teacher will:

Begin to work with our existing Early Childhood Task Force as soon as possible to envision the program as well as the physical space.
Serve as the face of the program in admissions/marketing events for the program.
Develop and administer the program.
Deliver the philosophy of Waldorf education and child development through ongoing parent education and classroom curriculum.

Requirements for the position include a Bachelor’s Degree, Waldorf Teacher Training certification (EC-specific preferred), and enthusiasm for bringing Waldorf education to our thriving urban environment. Candidate should be a self-starter, able to take on tasks with limited direction, have a strong desire to try new things, a love of learning, and strong verbal and nonverbal communication skills. They should be proficient in Microsoft Word and comfortable using email. Ideally, we seek someone with a minimum five to ten years of experience and a proven track record of success in an Early Childhood program. Starting salary is competitive and takes into consideration years of experience. Qualified applicants must be able to work in a collaborative manner in an environment of mutual support.

Applicants should send a letter of interest, resume, and three references to [email protected] Urban Prairie is an equal opportunity employer and will be accepting applications until January 31, 2018.
