Hawthorne Valley Waldorf School is seeking a dynamic, energetic Lead Music Teacher for the school year 2018-19 and beyond with experience teaching music in a Waldorf School context. The position will include coordinating all aspects of the school’s grade 1 – 12 music program (chorus and instrumental). Drawing on their knowledge and experience of age appropriate music education inspired by Waldorf pedagogy, candidates will be expected to teach music classes and lead instrumental ensembles/orchestras and choirs at various grade levels as required.

This is a full-time position, with health and other benefits.

Located in the historic Hudson River Valley, our school is ideally situated on a 900-acre biodynamic farm surrounded by beautiful views of the nearby Catskill and Berkshire Mountains. Both natural beauty and cultural riches surround us, providing wonderful opportunities for our students, families, and teachers. The school is 2.5 hours north of New York City.

The school is a branch of the Hawthorne Valley Association, which supports several Anthroposophical initiatives including the farm, the Alkion Waldorf teacher-training program, Adonis Press, a Place-Based Learning Center, and an organic store, lacto-fermentation cellar, and bakery. The local area abounds with additional initiatives including a Christian Community Church and the Berkshire-Taconic Branch of the Anthroposophical Society. Our diverse student body includes the children of co-workers from three nearby Camphill communities.

Qualified applicants will have an undergraduate degree, extensive musical experience, a Waldorf teacher training either completed or in process, experience teaching music, and an unflagging devotion to children and strong commitment to Waldorf Education. Applicants must be dedicated to excellence in teaching, and be committed to developing strong working relationships with colleagues, parents, and the wider community.
