Bayou Village School in Central Houston is excited to open its third Kindergarten classroom (for 3.5 - 6 year-old children) soon! We are looking for a Kindergarten lead teacher for this classroom for the 2018-19 school year. The ideal candidate holds a Waldorf Early Childhood Teaching Certificate. However, candidates who have a serious interest in Waldorf education and have a willingness to attend Waldorf teacher training will also be considered. In addition our ideal candidate:
- has a passion for spending time with young children.
- has excellent interpersonal skills and is able to develop and maintain professional relationships with parents and other staff members.
- is a live-long learner interested in child development, self-development and anthroposophy.
- can explain the whys and hows of the Waldorf early childhood curriculum and parenting according to Waldorf principles.
- has a pioneering spirit and enthusiasm for bringing Waldorf education to Houston.

This position involves planning and leading appropriate activities for the class; planning and implementing the daily, weekly and seasonal rhythms of the class according to the principles of Waldorf pedagogy and the needs s/he sees in his/her particular class; together with the other faculty planning and implementing seasonal festivals, communication with parents and parent education; communicating and developing our early childhood curriculum with the other early childhood staff; and caring for the classroom and other early childhood areas.

Bayou Village School, an associate member of WECAN, is an independent and community-based school and a non-profit organization with a goal of becoming an accredited Waldorf School. Now in our 8th year, we have approximately 125 children enrolled in classes for toddlers through 3rd grade. We continue expanding our early childhood program in order to get increased enrollment in our Waldorf grades program, which is growing by a grade each year.

Our school supports mentoring and continuing education of its faculty. The board of directors, administration and parent body are very supportive and work together with the faculty to grow and develop our school. More information about our school can be found online at www.bayouvillageschool.org.

Houston is a diverse, international city, which is reflected in the cultural/ethnical mix of our student body. Although Houston is a relatively inexpensive city to live in, it has a lot to offer for all ages, including a thriving art scene (museums, theater, galleries, etc.), great restaurants, annual festivals, various cultural celebrations, and outdoor recreational opportunities in town, including parks and arboretums as well as State Parks within an hour’s drive. Austin, San Antonio and the hill country are within 3-4 hours drive.
