School Overview Golden Bridges School is a small, groundbreaking school in its 11th full school year. GBS was founded by Waldorf-trained teachers and currently operates in San Francisco’s Portola neighborhood, serving Preschool through 8th grade.

We are dedicated to becoming an anti-racist school - committed to social justice, internally and externally - that is inclusive and welcoming to all. We incorporate both anthroposophy and social justice in our weekly faculty meetings, where we delve deeper into interrupting Euro- and white-centric curriculum to bring equitable teaching practices and anti-racist policies into the classroom and school life. We ask that teachers be interested and on a path of exploring both anthroposophy and social justice.

Outdoor Educator responsibilities

• Work with 1st-8th grade students at our school campus to support classroom learning with lead teachers
• Lead 4th and 5th grade students hiking in McLaren Park
• Lead 4th-8th grade students in collaborative and competitive games at Balboa Park
• Collaborate with teachers to support curriculum programming
• Support grades aftercare programming

Overall practices

• Embody school norms for holistic care of the students
• Engage in professional development by attending all staff in service days, and regularly observing or supporting classroom teachers
• Foster a fair and caring environment for children, with special attention to their physical, emotional, and social well being
• Promote positive, open, and transparent communication with all stakeholders including students, parents, co-workers, and the Director of Aftercare
• Be available to support up to 2 weeks of camp over our school breaks (1/2 week in November, 1 week in February, 2 weeks in April)

Qualifications

• At least 1 year of experience working with students ages 6-12 in a formal childcare or educational setting
• Prior experience as mentor, coach, enrichment teacher, or classroom assistant
• Alignment with Golden Bridges School’s mission to provide holistic education to its students
• Formal learning in, or academic exposure to, concepts in childhood development and education

Strong candidates will have:

• Prior training in one or more of the following: non violent communication, restorative practices or positive discipline practices
• Preference giving to those who have attended Waldorf school or teacher training, or have prior experience with Waldorf pedagogy
• Existing skill set for any of the following: knitting, sewing, crochet, art, weaving, music, singing, sports coaching, woodworking

Hiring requirements

Undergo LIVE SCAN screening

Have TB clearance

Complete a mandated reporter training

Complete First Aid and CPR Certification

$25- $27/hour

22.5 hours weekly between the hours of 11:30am-4pm

Includes opportunities for additional hours and pay as on-call substitute teacher

Position begins 8/16/23 and 8/17/23 9am - 4pm, additional meetings the week of 8/21, first day of school with regular hours begins 8/30

• CPR Certification (Preferred)
