The Waldorf School of Philadelphia seeks a part-time Handwork Teacher to teach grades 1-3 for the 2022-2023 school year for two x half days per week during the school year. The Handwork Teacher guides students to learn and develop skills in knitting, crocheting and embroidery. The teacher leads students in the completion of projects that develop these skills, as described in the Waldorf School of Philadelphia curriculum and within the framework of the Waldorf educational philosophy.

The Handwork teacher will have a strong sense of self and a great love of students, in particular for the applied arts. Communication with parents and guardians about expectations and progress, and a solid rapport with the students are essential aspects of the position. The ideal candidate also has some experience teaching.


Plan and lead all handwork classes for 1st - 3rd grade.
Ensure that the teaching space, supplies and materials are all maintained in good condition.
Create a safe and differentiated learning environment.
Engage families in a professional, articulate, and forthright manner, including regular communication about student progress and class content.
Maintain regular communication with class teachers regarding any issues or incidents that may require communication with parents. Communications of this kind should always be coordinated with the class teacher.
Implement, review, and develop the curriculum to meet the needs of our current students within the Waldorf educational philosophy and curriculum.
Design or alter projects to accommodate varying abilities.
Attend workshops, training sessions, and development opportunities, as directed and appropriate.
Work with the lead teacher to order supplies and manage a budget.
