Early Childhood Co-Teacher
Golden Bridges School

School Overview Golden Bridges School is a small, groundbreaking school in its 9th full school year. GBS was founded by Waldorf-trained teachers and operates in San Francisco’s Portola neighborhood, serving Preschool through 7th Grade, with 135 students and 42 staff members. The school is growing into a full Preschool through 8th Grade school.

GBS is taking a fresh look at Waldorf education, asking what the children of today in San Francisco need from teachers and education in general. One major result of this question is the development of a robust outdoor curriculum. We are dedicated to becoming an anti-racist school - committed to social justice, internally and externally - that is inclusive and welcoming to all. We incorporate both anthroposophy and social justice in our weekly faculty meetings, where we delve deeper into interrupting Euro- and white-centric curriculum to bring equitable teaching practices and anti-racist policies into the classroom and school life. We ask that applicants be interested and on a path of exploring both anthroposophy and social justice.

We seek candidates who have high academic standards, the ability to respect and engender the respect of students of all ages, the knowledge, skills, and enthusiasm to engage students of all temperaments and ability levels, and the interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with colleagues, administration, and parents/guardians. We recommend that all applicants review our website, Vision and Values, and Mission Statement.

For the 2022-2023 school year we are seeking an Early Childhood co-teacher to collaboratively co-teach a 4.5-hour, 5-day a week program. Co-teachers in the early childhood department work together in a symbiotic relationship that highlights the strengths of each teacher, as well as encouraging room to learn and grow from one another. There is much freedom in how this relationship operates, however, each partnership is built upon mutual respect and equally shared tasks –– from cleaning to storytelling, circle time, and parent work. We have found that co-teaching is most sustainable when each person’s efforts feel valued and supported.

Weekly programming includes indoor days, hike days and one day at our school farm.

The Early Childhood Co-Teacher will:
Develop age-appropriate curriculum for both the indoor and outdoor programming alongside a co-teacher
Commit to each child’s growth through inner work and the practical art of teaching
Plan and lead parent/guardian education and meetings
Review applications, interview applicants, and follow the enrollment processes
Attend all weekly Faculty meetings and serve on two school committees

Requirements:
Training in Waldorf education and/or Early Childhood Education
Teaching/assistant experience providing Waldorf / Waldorf-inspired early childhood curriculum

Qualified candidates have experience:

Adaptability and extremely flexibility (both in working with others and in being a part of a developing school and program that includes several different spaces)
Working outdoors in all seasons with comfort and enthusiasm in all safe weather conditions
Teaching or significant experience assistant in a Waldorf or Waldorf-inspired school
Creating positive experiences in team teaching, and/or working with a collaborative lead/assistant model
Teaching Waldorf curriculum and experience studying or practicing anthroposophy
If new to Waldorf, then must come with a willingness to do complete training and continuing education in Waldorf curriculum
Collaborating confidently with parents, both independently and with a co-teacher

Strong candidates will be:
Inspired to be a part of and help build a groundbreaking school
Aware of multiple cultural competencies and confident working with diverse family backgrounds, striving to create a community that is socially just and equitable
Strong collaborator, team player, and excellent communicator
Organized, creative, and full of initiative
Fluent in a second language is a plus
