Barn Owl School is seeking a Lead Teacher for Grade 1 for the 2022/2023 school year to start in September 2022.

Barn Owl School is a private outdoor micro-school located in Saratoga (South Bay Area), California. Our school was founded in 2018 and has been operating as a Waldorf inspired forest school since September 2019. Barn Owl School will grow by one grade each year with our students. In the 2022-2023 school year, we will serve children in the Parent Child Program through 1st grade, and in the 2023-2024 school year, we will serve children in the Parent Child Program through 2nd grade. By the 2029-2030 school year, we will offer services to children in the Parent Child Program through eighth grade.
Our programs have a low student-teacher ratio of 9 children to 1 adult in elementary school.
Classes are taught outside, rain or shine, yet in the case of extreme weather, such as, flash flood warning or unhealthy air quality, class will be canceled.
This is a part-time (29 hours per week) permanent position starting September 2022. The school is hoping to increase the hours, possibly to full-time.
Our starting salary for class teachers ranges from $40-$45 an hour, commensurate with experience. Full tuition remission.
Teaching experience - in a Waldorf school or other setting
Waldorf Teacher Education, current enrollment in an appropriate program, or a willingness to enroll in such a program
Interest in Anthroposophy
Ability to collaborate with fellow teachers and administrators
Ability to work with parents to meet their questions and needs as parents
Commitment to ongoing professional learning and development of personal professional practice
Must pass a background check
Negative TB check
First Aid Certified
Evaluating each child’s academic, emotional and social progress and reporting to parents regularly through written reports and interviews
Leading regular parent evenings and working one-on-one with parents to help facilitate a more thorough understanding of Waldorf curriculum and child development
Performing a designated number of duties, recess and administrative, in addition to teaching responsibilities
Attending weekly faculty meetings and regular retreats and assisting with school events wherever possible
Participating in ongoing professional development
