The Asheville Waldorf School is seeking an Assistant Early Childhood teacher for the 2022/2023 school year. This position will be starting in the summer of 2022. Join our vibrant, growing community nestled in the mountains of Western North Carolina. The Asheville Waldorf School is 12 years old. It is a member of the Waldorf Early Childhood Association of North America (WECAN) and an associate member of the Association of the Waldorf Schools of North America (AWSNA), serving children from Parent-Child classes through to Eighth grade.

The Asheville Waldorf School is moving to its forever home in the 2022/2023 school year and expanding its Early Childhood program. The new location is just 20 min west of downtown Asheville and is on 8 acres of forested land where your outdoor education dreams can come true. For the last two years, we have been outside and find that the children are thriving in this environment. And hence, we are excited to continue towards our goal of becoming a Waldorf school with an emphasis on outdoor programming and earth stewardship. We strive to be as diverse as our community and put great emphasis on human relationships and social renewal. Our faculty, committees, board, administration, staff, and parents work towards harmony and mutual support to ensure our community thrives.

The EC Assistant's primary focus is to support the Lead Teacher in their work and help maintain the class environment while caring for the children. The assistant helps to create a warm, supportive environment, prepare meals, and care for the classroom's physical space consistent with Waldorf Early Childhood Education methods and practices.

Responsibilities include:
Daily classroom set up and clean up
Familiar with the daily rhythm
Supervising the children and offering them first aid care.
Assisting children while in the bathroom
Participating in and/or providing child care during Parent Meetings, Open House, and Parent-Teacher conferences
Working with the principles of Waldorf Early Childhood education
Attending monthly Early Childhood Faculty meetings and weekly meetings with the Lead Teacher

We seek teachers with a deep understanding of child development, an interest in anthroposophy, a love of working with young children, and the enthusiasm and energy to grow with a developing school. Since the classrooms will be almost entirely outside, the ideal candidate will enjoy being outdoors with the children in all weather conditions. Outdoor Education experience is a great plus.
