Qualifications
Applicants should have at least a Bachelor’s in Music Education or Music, with preference given to those with a Masters and above. Special preference is given to candidates with Waldorf teacher or Waldorf music teacher training, as well as experience teaching in school settings, and the ability to teach general music or other classes in the music department.
If applicants have not already completed a certification in Waldorf Music Teacher Education, they will be asked to enroll in one as a condition of employment. Partial funding for this will be available through the Maine Coast Waldorf School Teacher Education Grant. Preference is given to candidates willing to make additional commitments to the ongoing study of anthroposophy and Waldorf Education.
Salary and Benefits
Salary and Benefits: This is a full-time position. Full-time faculty members are currently offered medical and disability coverage, a retirement plan, and financial support for professional development. Our base salary is $44,557 and increases based on advanced degrees and experience.
Schedule and Responsibilities
This position will carry a full complement of teaching classes, decided in conjunction with the lower school and high school branches. The Coordinator of Music Education will oversee, in conjunction with the music faculty, the development of an effective long-term vision for the music program. This will include organizing performance opportunities for the instrumental ensembles. The music coordinator will serve on at least one pedagogical committee, coordinate at least two all-school instrumental concerts, and will also arrange other performance opportunities such as playing for school events or at off-campus locations. The
Coordinator of Music Education will work in conjunction with the Maine Music Educators Association and will organize and/or oversee opportunities for music competition/ adjudication, such as field trips and festivals.
Additional meeting responsibilities include: weekly special subject teacher department meeting, weekly faculty/branch(es) meeting, mentor meeting with other music teachers and performances, minimum of two all-school concerts. Non-teaching responsibilities include writing regular class updates and student progress reports and taking part in Parent-Teacher conferences in fall and winter and additional communication as needed (in person, by telephone, or email). This person will also share campus duties (playground supervision, etc.) and substitution as scheduled.
