We are seeking a teacher for a small group of first and second grade children. We are not yet an established school, but hope to grow into one. This will be the first school of this kind in our city. We are seeking a teacher with enough experience to bring his or her own heart curriculum and someone who is excited to begin this journey with us.
Oklahoma City, OK
On our property which consists of 8 acres and a beautiful newly built building.
Fall 2022 (there is a possibility that the position could begin earlier)
What is important to us?
-A whole-child curriculum that nourishes the body, mind, and spirit. We are drawn to the Waldorf approach, but not married to it. We describe ourselves as a Steiner-inspired forest school.
-A focus on outdoor time. We would like to find a teacher who is interested in fostering the child’s connection to and reverence for the natural world. Opportunity for immersion in nature, as opposed to just time outside. There will be animal care and gardening on site which can hopefully be worked into the school day.
-Respect for each child’s unique learning path. Allowing space for a child’s spiritual growth, as well, without attempting to teach them ‘how it is.’
-An education that strives to guard a child’s natural sense of wonder.
-Preparing the children to meet challenges, ask questions, and grow into themselves, rather than preparing them to fit into ‘the system.’
-A teacher who values his or her own inner work
-A schedule that respects both the children’s and teacher’s need for rest and family/social time.
Here is the schedule we’ve come up with:
Labor Day through Memorial Day
Three full days per week
We would love to find a teacher who is also interested in leading a three hour forest school class for children ages 3-10 on one of the other two days of the week.
If interested, please contact me and we can talk more in depth about the position and compensation.
Thank you for your time,
