General Statement of Responsibilities: The MCWS Development Director will provide a strategic and comprehensive fundraising program, including maintaining relationships with existing internal and external constituents; identifying and developing new donors; the timely submission of grant proposals and reports; and the general oversight of the annual giving, special events, and alumni programs. With a results-oriented and enthusiastic temperament, the Development Director will aim to further the mission of Maine Coast Waldorf School by identifying, engaging and inspiring philanthropic support from the entire school community and beyond.

Salary and Benefits:
Total compensation: approximately $60 to 65k, determined on the same pay scale as faculty salaries. Benefits include tuition remission, health insurance, and retirement.

Description:
Maine Coast Waldorf School is seeking an experienced, creative entrepreneurial leader to guide the school’s fundraising and community building efforts. The Development Director will serve the school by leading and managing the school's development work in conjunction with the Board of Directors, and Administrative team. The Development Director will focus on both short- and long-term financial health of the school by cultivating positive relationships with community members, alums, alum parents, grandparents, and foundations. This position calls for a data-driven, dynamic individual who possesses progressive development experience in major gifts fundraising, planned giving, campaign planning and an appreciation for and understanding of Waldorf education. The Development Director will demonstrate the ability to carry out a strategic and comprehensive fundraising program, including maintaining relationships with existing internal and external constituents, identifying and developing new donors, the timely submission of grant proposals and reports, and the general oversight of the annual giving, special events, and alumni programs.

General Responsibilities:
Set direction for development goals and strategies in conjunction with the Development Committee, including a multi-year plan to increase overall giving statistics (both participation and money raised)
Create and implement a multi-year development plan
Participate as a colleague in pedagogical, administrative, and board meetings
Effectively communicates development opportunities and integrates messaging in MCWS publications: case for support, grant proposals, newsletters, the annual report, digital communications, etc.
Oversees the management of the constituent database, prospect assignment and prospect management to ensure effectiveness across giving platforms.
Serves as an ambassador for MCWS through interactions with donors, prospects and school constituents and community members and promotes philanthropy at all levels of the school community.
Ensures strong volunteer leadership and volunteer involvement in the development program, including parent engagement as a top priority, but also encompassing alumni, alumni parents and grandparents.

Fundraising:
Cultivate and maintain strong relationships between the school and core communities including: parents, community foundations, and extended community (extended families, alumni, alumni parents), leveraging administrative team, board members and Development Committee members for key ongoing relationships
Plan and implement any strategic initiatives jointly approved by the board and the college such as capital campaign or major gift initiatives
Identify strategies in individual giving and donor relations and cultivate new major donors to align with strategic planning and goals
Develop and implement an annual solicitation strategy, in collaboration with the Development Committee, for current families and extended community
Develop and manage, in collaboration with the Development Committee, fundraising projections, budget and analyses
Participate in the school’s annual budget process
Oversee all aspects of the gift cycle
Oversee the task of establishing and maintaining benchmark indicators for reviewing success of development activities and ensure best practices in data management
Present monthly board reports on development data
Oversee gift reporting and acknowledgements
Oversee grant applications and reports as appropriate
Oversee work on ad hoc projects that relate to development, institutional advancement, and strategic planning and marketing
Ensure that the school’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion is reflected in fundraising efforts.
Inspire committee efficacy, checking in with committee members on completion of tasks
Manage outside agencies and resources, as appropriate
Integrate with Marketing to support fundraising goals
Strategic Leadership and Committee Participation


Skills and training required:
Bachelor's Degree
Professional development background, preferably 3-5 years of progressive fundraising leadership experience, ideally in an educational setting, including: annual fundraising, major gifts, events management, capital campaigns, planned giving and strategic planning
Mission-driven motivation and an appreciation for and interest in MCWS and Waldorf Education values to actively raise funds
Ability to balance a mix of external and internal development communications including our continuously growing alum base
Maturity, confidence, and discretion necessary to work effectively with faculty, parents, administrators and board members
Alignment with Waldorf education and collaborative leadership
Strong written and oral communication skills
Strong organizational and planning skills including ability to prioritize time investments and delegate non-strategic items as appropriate
Ability to work collaboratively in a team and to manage and inspire volunteers
Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and Google.
