Portland Waldorf School is seeking program leadership for our long established high school Outdoor Program and curriculum. The scope of the Outdoor Program includes leading the following trips: 12th grade Leadership Week activities (September), 9th grade Outdoor week (September), additional Outdoor week for grades 10,11 and 12 (May, early June). The program has an existing curriculum for these trips.

Individuals must have experience in these areas:

  1. planning and executing outdoor trips in all details (working with existing programs and curriculum)
  2. working with adolescents
  3. supporting and building leadership skills
  4. organizing and communicating with teachers, parents and students
  5. training and certification in the necessary and appropriate safety needs (wilderness first responder or equivalent)

Responsibilities include:

  1. reserve/schedule and secure trip sites, obtain any necessary permits, work with school to place deposits
  2. recruit and contract additional instructors/support/chaperones for trips (in consultation with High School faculty)
  3. organize and procure transportation to sties, complete food and gear requirements, set up base camps and follow all permit requirements
  4. hold the curriculum, schedule and activities for the various weeks, including food-meal schedule as well as programmatic activities.
