Parent/ child Morning Garden Teacher
Asheville Waldorf School is now accepting applications for a part-time Parent and Child teacher for the 2022-23 school year. This teacher is responsible to lead and run a program for young children (6 weeks-31/2 years) and their parents/caretakers. The successful applicant will have a background in Waldorf Education with a deep understanding and reverence for the special needs of the young child. This person should enjoy working with children as well as adults and serve as a guide to facilitate the transition from home life into the life of being in a school community dedicated to Waldorf Education. The duties of this teacher include:
*Welcoming new and returning families to Asheville Waldorf School and to the Morning Garden program.
*Providing a safe, structured, nurturing and supportive environment where children and parents can grow and learn.
*Providing an opportunity for parents to participate in the making of simple, yet beautiful crafts that can serve as inspiration at home with their children.
*Leading a seasonal circle that incites wonder and engages the children and parents through song, rhyme, fingerplays and a connection to the natural world.
*Providing a warm, wholesome snack to nourish all participants.
*Offering of puppetry and storytelling that is engaging for all.
*Providing an opportunity for guided discussion related to hand outs or a chosen book that is related to the Waldorf style of parenting and working with very young children.
*Planning for and purchasing needed supplies and food stuffs to remain within given budget
*Caring for the materials and physical space (the class is held in one of our nursery or kindergarten classrooms)
*Working with an assistant teacher, who will be available to support in the Lead teacher in tasks such as snack preparation, care of the space, and guidance of the class
*Attending two faculty meetings (paid) per month
The Asheville Waldorf School is 12 years old. It is a member of the Waldorf Early Childhood Association of North America (WECAN) and an associate member of the Association of the Waldorf Schools of North America (AWSNA), serving children from Parent-Child classes through to Eighth grade.
