River Valley Waldorf School is seeking an individual to join the faculty to serve as a long-term substitute in our combined second and third grade class. The position will begin in early winter and last through the school year. Being a class teacher at River Valley Waldorf School requires authentic warmth, good humor, joy, and enthusiasm for teaching. The long-term substitute is responsible for providing classroom coverage to the combined second and third grade while their current teacher is absent for an extended period of time, January/February 2023-June 2023. The long-term substitute works the regular hours of the absent classroom teacher during their absence and takes on all essential duties.
Teaches content and skills in subject area utilizing Waldorf curriculum framework and other appropriate learning activities.
Maintains classroom culture and social health of the class.
Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the Waldorf.
pedagogical philosophy and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and subgroups of students.
Evaluates academic and social growth of students, prepares progress reports, keeps appropriate records to include attendance reports, checklists, and other record keeping activities as necessary.
Conducts spring family conferences to share student progress and completes authoring of year end narrative reports.
Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.
Identifies student needs and collaborates with the educational support team.
Communicates with parents on student progress.
Supervises students in assigned out-of-classroom activities during the working day.
Participates in faculty committees and faculty meetings.
Adheres to personnel policies and practices and family handbook guidelines.
Performs any other related duties as assigned by the head of school and/or pedagogical chair.
We prefer candidates with a college degree, a commitment to Waldorf education, and proven capacities for teaching. Waldorf teaching training is strongly preferred for this position. We offer competitive benefits and a tuition remission benefit for qualifying faculty children.
Hours and Compensation
Daily 8:00 am - 3:30 pm with weekly after-school faculty meetings, committee meetings, and occasional special events on evenings and weekends.
Salary ranges from $33,000 - $47,000 based on education and experience, and includes participation in the 403b retirement plan as well as healthcare benefits. Background clearances, physical examination, and TB test will be required.

The 7-acres of River Valley Waldorf School sits on forested hills that overlook the Delaware River on unceded Lenni-Lenape land.
