CWS seeks a 6/7 class teacher who holds the mixed-age 6/7 class as a homeroom and teaches history and geography to the middle school (grades 6/7 and 8) for the 2023-24 school year and beyond.

Duration

School year from mid-August through mid-June, including Faculty Work Days, and some email communication during the summer

Work Hours

7:30 am - 3:30 pm, Mon-Fri., plus meetings 3:30-5pm on Thursdays

Overview

The 6/7 teacher will be the class teacher for this group of middle school students. This faculty member will teach blocks of 6/7 curriculum but also blocks to the 8th grade. The majority of this person’s role will be teaching history and geography. A second middle school teacher will be focusing on the sciences and language arts. At this time, we are only seeking experienced Waldorf classroom teachers to fill this position. 

This position requires creativity, flexibility, and the ability to innovate and reimagine the traditional Waldorf curriculum to meet students in combined classes. Strong classroom management skills are important for this position as are strong communication skills with parents.  

Visit expenses will be covered by the school for the right candidate. Upon hire, moving expenses will be covered by the school.

Areas of Responsibility

Teaching Responsibilities

Plan and carry out all areas of curriculum according to Waldorf pedagogy.

Keep classroom supplies in good working condition. Order supplies as needed.

Create and maintain a clean and orderly classroom space, including seasonal changes

Keep a daily record of attendance. 

Review and keep a notebook of children's emergency and dismissal forms, as well as the list of children who have health concerns (allergies, medical conditions etc.)

Communicate all student and parent concerns in a timely and professional manner.

Attend faculty meetings and workdays according to the school calendar.

Administrative Responsibilities

Work with the enrollment coordinator to facilitate new enrollments into our program

Complete midterm and end-of-year reports according to CWS guidelines

Meeting Responsibilities

Full Faculty/Grade School department meeting once a week after school

Mentor meetings when applicable

Training 

Red Cross/CPR First Aid certification/Medicine Administration training (classes are usually offered during Faculty Work Days)

Maintain a working knowledge of school policies and procedures:

fire, shelter in place, and evacuation procedures, proper documentation of children's injuries, location and use of first aid kit

Evaluations and professional development

Annual observations and periodic evaluations are part of professional development. Full-time teachers are expected to complete 20 hours of professional development each year. A portion of these hours are offered on campus during in-service days.
