High School Outdoor Program Coordinator

Milwaukie, OR, USA

Part time

High School

Dec 3

Portland Waldorf School is welcoming applications for our Outdoor Program Coordinator position. The position exists to create, maintain, and implement outdoor curriculum for grades 9-12. The Program Coordinator typically plans and leads five week-long trips each year — including organizing all logistics, hiring and training co-leaders and contracted guides. Qualified individuals must have experience in planning and executing outdoor trips in a variety of settings, working with and building leadership skills in adolescents, maintaining well-organized systems, and communicating clearly with students, families, and colleagues.

This is a contracted, seasonal job that requires flexible work hours and communication throughout the school year, and an increased time commitment surrounding each of the five annual outdoor trips. Each grade (9-11) has one week-long trip in either the Fall or Spring semester, and Grade 12 has two week-long trips, one in the Fall and one in the Spring. There are infrequent evening meetings, and occasional weekends are required for travel and preparation of sites, work with parents, students, and leaders, or preparation of gear and food.

These are the 2022-23 dates for the PWS Outdoor Program trips:

September 8-13 (Grade 12) - completed

November 7-11 (Grade 9) - completed

May 15-19, 2023 (Grade 10) - upcoming

May 22-26, 2023 (Grade 11) - upcoming

June 5-10, 2023 (Grade 12) - upcoming

The Outdoor Program is an extension of our classrooms and an integral part of our high school curriculum. Our teachers and staff members work enthusiastically and energetically to engage their students and are dedicated to Waldorf education. They work collaboratively with their colleagues and the parent community to create an educational environment that is aligned with the school mission and program goals.

This is a contracted position, with compensation dependent upon experience (up to $3,000 per trip for the lead guide and up to $1,000 per trip for the assistant guide). The contract will be negotiated upon hire. Benefits are not offered for this position. To apply, please send your resume, letter of interest, and three professional references including phone numbers and emails to hiring@portlandwaldorf.org.
