Primary Function: To serve as the lead guiding teacher for the mixed-age kindergarten classroom; to plan curriculum for the year, including the daily, weekly and seasonal rhythms of the classroom according to the principles of Waldorf education and the needs of the class; and to communicate with parents.

Skills: Teaching skills, ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, ability to organize activities for class, ability to work cooperatively with colleagues and parents, ability to address social conflict among students, ability to communicate the pedagogy of Waldorf education to parents and host parent evenings.

Training Required: Bachelor's degree and/or Waldorf Early Childhood teacher training, Colorado ECT Credentials, CPR & First Aid; Medication Administration, required PDIS Colorado Shines Courses, and maintain 15 hours of continuing education. Courses may be completed upon hire.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

Classroom and Facilities:

  • Host, facilitate and participate in annual work days to prepare the classroom
  • Support end of year classroom transition by packing up and cleaning current classroom
  • Maintain a clean and aesthetically pleasing classroom
  • Maintain a clean and aesthetically pleasing campus and faculty meeting spaces
  • Report building and ground maintenance needs to appropriate committee representatives
  • Maintain orderly storage area in the EC section of the basement

Parent Communication

  • Communicate regularly with parents about student needs and student progress
  • Plan, facilitate, host and lead at least four and up to six Parent Evenings during the school year
  • Host two parent/teacher conferences during the school year
  • Select class parents and engage with them throughout the year


  • Prepare and present daily circle activity, story and or artistic activities
  • Monitor indoor free play
  • Teach social skills and foster healthy social relations
  • Prepare and serve daily snack
  • Maintain discipline, respect and safety within the classroom
  • Organization of student materials needed for daily activities
  • Support for festivals and celebrations as needed

Health and Safety

  • Enforce school policies, licensing rules and regulations
  • Maintain a safe environment and ensure that program and classroom meet the licensing and accreditation requirements
  • Lead students through fire drills and other emergency drills
  • Provide first aid as necessary
  • Be knowledgeable about campus Emergency Plan and able to implement when necessary


  • Supervise, train and mentor morning and afternoon associates and communicate on a regular basis
  • Work with the entire early childhood staff in the safety and maintenance of the play yard
  • Attend monthly full faculty early childhood meetings
  • Attend weekly early childhood lead teacher meeting and bi-weekly full faculty meeting and faculty back to school week in August

Outreach and Admissions

  • Intake meetings during enrollment season and support to the admissions process as needed
  • Work with enrollment coordinator to promote awareness about Waldorf education in the wider community

Record Keeping and Administrative Tasks

  • Ensure supplies and materials are purchased within budgetary limitations
  • Maintain accurate daily attendance records and illness logs
  • Fulfill other responsibilities of a salaried teacher as indicated in the Boulder Valley Waldorf School Employee Handbook, Employment Letter and Operations Manual

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: From $46,000.00 per year
