AMW Public Waldorf, a school of choice in the Sacramento City Unified School District, serves students in early kindergarten through eighth grade. As Title I school, it is the second public Waldorf school in the United States and serves an extremely diverse population.
For the betterment of our students’ world views, there is a strong desire for representation of adults of similar backgrounds in the school faculty. Therefore, we strongly encourage applicants from marginalized communities, including black, indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC), LGBTQ+, and other populations traditionally underrepresented in educational settings.
School begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 3:12 p.m. Thursdays are minimum days ending at 2:12, followed by a staff meeting in which the Spanish instructor participates.
While the Community Guild is active in fundraising and holding enrichment events, school leadership also recognizes a great portion of its students come from households with minimal disposable income and/or ability for adults to participate. The school is dedicated to ensuring that all students, regardless of their background, receive the same loving Waldorf education.
AMW transitioned to a Waldorf-inspired curriculum in 2012, the second public Waldorf elementary school in the nation. Since that time, it has steadily attracted talented classroom teachers, specialty teachers and administrators. The team of educators work collaboratively to offer unique opportunities to the school’s nearly 400 students.
The ever-improving campus features multiple garden spaces; a greenhouse; outdoor classroom areas; an outdoor cafeteria space; and woodworking, music and Handwork rooms. Annual celebrations include a rose ceremony, Whole World Festival of Light, May Faire and various field trips to locations near and far.
