Live Oak is seeking an enthusiastic, artistic, warm-hearted colleague to join our faculty as a third-grade class teacher. Our greater parent body is community-minded and supportive, fully enjoying a return to concerts, lectures, and festivals on our beautiful campus. We offer many rich programs including Spanish, Handwork, Woodwork, Music, Orchestra, Eurythmy, and Movement Education. The dedicated and experienced faculty members of Live Oak hold true to the principles of Waldorf education, and we deeply value the integral roles of mentoring support and the invested work of the College of Teachers. Our faculty and Board of Trustees enjoy a warm collegial relationship and work collaboratively with our parent community to create an educational environment that is aligned with the ideals of Waldorf Education and the school's mission and goals.
Founded in the fall of 1976, Live Oak is fully accredited by AWSNA and serves 200 children from preschool through eighth grade. Our community enjoys a 40-acre campus in Meadow Vista, California, in the Sierra foothills, 45 minutes east of Sacramento and 1 hour west of Donner Summit and nestled between the Bear River and the north fork of the American River. The surrounding area is an adventureland for the outdoor-minded who enjoy skiing, snowboarding, and water sports including river rafting. The numerous trail systems are frequented by horseback riders, hikers, runners, and mountain bikers. Live Oak is where the Olympic Games for fifth-grade Waldorf students from the Sierra Foothills and Sacramento Valley was born and still continues to thrive. Our children enjoy day field trips to farms, Native American sites, caverns, railroad tunnels built by Chinese laborers in the 1800s, mining sites, fish hatcheries, rivers and waterfalls, ski slopes, and museums. Fortunately, we are also close enough to the coast to plan multiple-day trips to all that part of California has to offer with the blessing of coming home to a less crowded and friendlier environment.
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree or higher, will have completed or are presently enrolled in Waldorf Teacher Training, and will have some prior teaching experience.
Benefits include:
Joining an enthusiastic and supportive faculty
Priority enrollment for children of hired faculty
Tuition remission for children of faculty
A school year calendar designed for sustainable teaching and learning
Financial support for renewal courses
Living where you would vacation
