Monterey Bay Charter School(MBCS) is a TK-8 public school serving the Monterey Bayregion. The school’s emphasis is providing students a solid academic foundation, developingtheir artistic expression, and ensuring healthy social-emotional development. The school’sholistic, arts-integrated approach to learning emphasizes the student’s relationship to the naturalworld thereby promoting respect for the environment and humankind. The mission is to nurturethe whole child with the objective of developing students who are self-motivated, competentlife-long learners.
Founded in 1998 with 168 students, Monterey Bay Charter School is guided by the CorePrinciples for Public Waldorf Education and is a member of the Alliance for Public Waldorf Education.In 2006, the school was awarded its first autonomous charter status by the MontereyCounty Office of Education (MCOE) Board of Directors. MBCS is accredited by the WesternAssociation of Schools and Colleges and provides a tuition-free public-school education on twocampuses(TK-1 in Seaside and grades 2-8 in Pacific Grove). The school now has threekindergartens and two classes of each grade (1-8) with a current enrollment of 465 students andwill be maximizing its enrollment with approximately 550 students.
