Round House School centers on the seasons and living cycles, circular economy, community and our Earth home in a well-rounded, unboxed approach to learning.
With an expansive outdoor curriculum and a commitment to social wellbeing, Round House School will offer a holistic education that nourishes a deep connection to the land and community of the Klamath Basin. Our academic, artistic and experiential learning will honor the developmental stages of childhood; build confidence, connection and purpose; and give students the skills to live resourceful, meaningful lives.
The school will be a working farm, putting academics in the context of real problem solving, strong work ethic and entrepreneurship, while nourishing our students and community with healthy local food. Caring for plants and animals, cooking, handwork, music, movement, storytelling and languages will be part of the children’s daily and weekly rhythms.
In the first two to three years, campus will be a neighborhood house with a cluster of supporting outdoor spaces. The house offers a light-filled primary room, two small “subject” rooms, a kitchen, covered patio and a finished basement well suited for handwork and indoor garden tasks. The vision is to move to a long term land-based location by our fourth year, where horticultural learning can expand and the buildings themselves, through their design and materials, will serve as teachers.
Land, animal and plant care is a central tenet of the school, even as we begin in a neighborhood setting; in addition to the school house property, neighboring yards & micro farms will support immersive outdoor activities. A network of hillside trails is just a short walk from the house. Full outdoor days at nearby parks, farms or wild spaces may also be included on a periodic basis.
