We are a little school with a big bright spirit and we are seeking a Waldorf trained and  experienced teacher with interest in ancestral skills to join our team as the First Grade Teacher. This candidate must have excellent communication skills, strong work habits, impeccable classroom management and a burning passion for being in nature with children.  

The Hedge is a wildly inspired new educational endeavor for grades 1-6 located on 30 plus  acres of forest, meadow and wetland in Sandpoint, Idaho. Sandpoint is a hidden treasure; a quaint town of artists and outdoor enthusiasts nestled against two glorious mountain ranges and a majestic lake. We are 30 miles from the Canadian border. 

As experienced Waldorf teachers,  here we are marrying Waldorf education with deep nature connection. In addition to the Main Lesson curriculum, foreign language and traditional handwork class, earth based ritual and ancestral skills are woven into the school day. We also have ski, archery and equestrian programs. At the start of each school day we gather as a  full community to give thanks for the day, the land we join on to learn, the four directions, one another and our ancestors.  Our work is a ceremony. We feel deeply blessed to witness this new  education unfold and to be its humble midwife. Our student body hovers around 30 children depending on the year and the student to teacher ratio is 12:1.

The Hedge runs from Monday through Thursday from 9-3 with an optional Friday Deep Nature Program for elementary students. We run on  an alternative school calendar which allows for teaching and learning in all four seasons with  long restorative breaks throughout the year. We aim to create and maintain school rhythms  that are life affirming and sustaining and allow for students and teachers to thrive physically,  emotionally and socially. 

This is a full-time salaried position that will have a small class of first graders (6-8 students) and grow in a combined first/second grade the following year. Tuition-remission is a benefit for full-time teachers.
