Yuba River Charter School is a thriving Waldorf Methods Charter School, with approximately 300 students in Grades K through 8. Established 28 years ago, Yuba River Charter School was the first public charter school guided by the principles of public Waldorf Education in the United States. Recently our school realized its dream of land ownership and built a beautiful educational space on 16 acres for children to create, learn and play. We have an outdoor garden classroom space, a playground and play court, and plan for a working farm with animals, outdoor amphitheater, outdoor classrooms and space for a full practical arts program.
We are located in Grass Valley, in the picturesque Sierra Nevada Foothills of California, only an hour north of Sacramento and less than 90 minutes to Lake Tahoe. Here, you'll find a range of arts and cultural opportunities, abundant outdoor recreation, and some of the best, most innovative schools in the state. Grass Valley and neighboring Nevada City is a place "Where the Past is Always Present"--where a unique blend of colorful Gold Rush history, Victorian architecture, and an honoring of the first peoples of this land are woven into a breathtaking scenic backdrop. Grass Valley and Nevada City offer rich history, a dynamic and family-oriented community, and proximity to some of the most magnificent parts of California—at a more affordable cost-of-living.
Yuba River Charter School has 12 full-time classroom faculty with specialists in handwork, cultural arts, movement, Spanish, gardening and workshop arts. Over half of the faculty are fully Waldorf certified and the rest are in process of obtaining full certification by the fall of 2022. On average our faculty have over 10 years of experience in K-8 education.
