Kindergarten Assistant Teacher

Summary:
The Kindergarten Assistant should be a trained Waldorf Early Childhood teacher or enrolled in a Waldorf Teacher Training program. The assistant should have an understanding of kindergarten life as well as an interest in the school as a whole. The assistant will help the lead teacher in all aspects of the kindergarten class and is an example to the children. The teachers, as examples, must always show care for themselves, for each other, for their work, and the children. Flexibility, presence, and a cooperative spirit are required in order to create a harmonious environment, for the children to receive the lead teacher and the assistant as a guiding unit.

Responsibilities include:
● Supporting the physical, social, and emotional needs of the children
● Observing the children and supporting their engagement with activities at hand
● Conducting activities with a sense of order and rhythm
● Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion work
● Caring for the classroom and materials with daily, weekly, and seasonal cleaning and care
● Stocking and preparing classroom materials (beeswax, drawing and painting paper, cleaning supplies)
● Preparing weekly snacks with children, engaging them in all aspects
● Keeping track of and purchasing snack and craft supplies
● Memorizing and telling fairy and folk tales
● Assisting with craft projects and seasonal gifts preparation
● Creating seasonal felt board pictures
● Attending occasional Parent-Teacher conferences
● Conducting kindergarten family interviews (after one year)
● Setting up for and participating in parent evenings and enrollment events
● Serve on a committee after a year
● Occasionally substituting for Lead Teacher
● Additional duties as needed by Lead Teacher
Hours and Meetings:
The Kindergarten Assistant needs to be in school from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. every weekday and on select afternoons for meetings and interviews and weekend hours before and/or after holiday breaks for cleaning and new seasonal set-ups as well as other school events.
The Kindergarten Assistant needs to help the teacher in the preparation of the classroom at the beginning of the school year (the two weeks before school starts) and in the clean-up at the end of the school year.
They need to be present and help set-up for parent evenings, enrollment events and at parent teacher conferences when needed and to conduct Kindergarten family interviews.
Required meetings:
- Weekly Kindergarten faculty
- Monthly Early Childhood faculty
- Weekly Grade School faculty
- Quarterly All School faculty
- February BACWTT Teacher Conference or approved alternative
- All school meetings before school begins and after
Participation in these meetings is important and expected for a conscious working together.
Qualifications:
● Waldorf Teacher Training completed or in progress
● Completion of 12 ECEs (or equivalent) within two years of being hired
Benefits and Compensation:
This is a .75 FTE position with full benefits including medical, dental, flexible spending plans, matching retirement plan (employer contributions begin after one year of employment), and pro-rated tuition remission for eligible dependents in our N-12 program – Staff fees apply. The .75FTE (prorated) annual salary range is $45K - $63K depending on experience. Salaries are paid on a 12-month schedule.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
● Be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs.
● Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including heat and cold
● Regularly sitting or standing 4-8 hours
