Early Childhood Teacher for Fall 2024
Ashwood Waldorf School is seeking applications for a full-time early childhood teacher for fall 2024.
Would you like to join a Waldorf school with a harmonious and stable faculty, a strong board, and a supportive parent body? Would you like to live on a spectacular coastline, filled with pastoral farmlands, pine forests, and charming New England villages? Ashwood Waldorf School (parent-child through 8th grade) is seeking an enthusiastic, experienced, Waldorf-trained lead teacher for our mixed-age (4-6 year-olds) kindergarten program beginning fall 2024.
Situated on a beautiful 30-acre hillside campus, Ashwood is a small, thriving Waldorf school in our 37th year. We currently have approximately 76 students enrolled. Our early childhood building, perched at the top of our campus, is beautifully designed with spacious sun-filled classrooms and doors leading directly out to our wooded playground and extensive network of trails. We spend a significant amount of time outside in varying weather.
Our faculty shares beliefs that guide us in our work: a willingness to grow and develop, both individually and as a school; to work mindfully; to teach creatively and with love; and to nurture a supportive and active community. We have a strong in-house mentoring program and master teachers visit on a regular basis. Nearby Camden has a branch of the Anthroposophical Society and several ongoing study groups.
The colleague we seek will bring a passion for Waldorf teaching, strong leadership skills, and a commitment to supporting the life of the school as a whole. Benefits include a health insurance stipend, 100% tuition remission, short-term disability insurance, a life insurance stipend, and faculty development support.
Nearby Camden and Rockland Harbors are home to Windjammers, yachts, and working fishermen. Opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts (boating, skiing, hiking, camping, etc.) abound. Acadia National Park is two hours to the north. The midcoast area enjoys a rich and diverse cultural life. The Rockport and Camden Opera Houses and the Strand Theater in Rockland offer a broad selection of live performances and films. There are ample opportunities for artistic endeavors, educational enrichment, and alternative healing. Several local farms practice biodynamics and offer produce for sale. Maine’s two largest cities, Portland and Bangor—homes to notable symphonies, museums, great restaurants, and professional theater companies—are both an hour and a half away.
