Aftercare Lead Teacher
Susquehanna Waldorf School is seeking a dedicated and experienced Aftercare Lead Teacher to join our team for the 2025-2026 school year. This position involves creating a warm, engaging, and nurturing environment for children in our aftercare program.
Hours: 2:45 PM to 5:45 PM, Monday through Friday
Key Responsibilities:
- Classroom Management: Arrange for the set-up and clean-up of the classroom to ensure an inviting and organized space for aftercare activities.
- Rhythm and Atmosphere: Create and maintain an atmosphere appropriate to the after-school rhythms, supporting a sense of balance and calm for the children.
- Play Supervision: Channel, supervise, and nurture both outdoor and indoor play, encouraging imaginative and cooperative activities.
- Group Transitions: Hold the group appropriately during transition times, ensuring smooth and respectful movement between activities.
- Parent Communication: Provide parents with information about the rhythms and events of the day in a clear and professional manner.
- Collaboration: Maintain open communication with the Aftercare Assistant, Class teachers, and parents to address special needs and requests.
- Team Leadership: Guide and work cooperatively with the assistant, fostering a collaborative and supportive working environment.
- Child Safety: Ensure the safe transfer of children to their respective guardians – staff, parents, or other designated adults – at the end of the day.
Qualifications:
- A working knowledge of Waldorf philosophy and pedagogy.
- Previous experience as an assistant in a Waldorf program.
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with children, parents, and staff.
- A passion for working with children and a commitment to their well-being and development.
- Appropriate childcare clearances as required by state and local regulations.
