Associate Director of Development
The Associate Director of Development works strategically and collaboratively to provide leadership of the Development Office by taking initiative, inspiring others, delegating responsibility, identifying resources, and representing the school to a variety of constituent groups. Reporting to the Director of Advancement, the Associate Director of Development has a shared responsibility to advance the Waldorf School of Philadelphia’s strategic objectives in close collaboration with the Head of School, Board of Trustees, administration team, faculty leadership, and parent volunteers.
Responsibilities may include:
Fundraising and Community Development
Prepare, implement, and evaluate comprehensive annual and long-range plans and goals for development and fundraising
Work closely with the Director of Advancement to support the school’s capital giving programs including Capital Campaign planning and execution and major donor identification, solicitation, and stewardship
Energize and inspire a culture of philanthropy, stewardship, and solicitation to support the school’s mission and strategic initiatives
Establish and maintain stewardship and cultivation strategy to enhance and deepen donor relationships with the school
Educate constituents about the importance of supporting the school, provide guidance and expertise to school leadership for cultivating a school culture of philanthropy
Lead the Annual Giving Program including developing the annual giving appeals, donor solicitation, ongoing stewardship, and cultivation, and preparing and publishing the annual report
Maintain and develop the EITC Program through dedicated outreach and donor cultivation
Manage and maintain the development database including statistical and trend reporting.
Alumni Engagement, Outreach and Advocacy
Energize our school’s alumni and build meaningful connections with Waldorf alumni locally, regionally, and nationally to maximize engagement and philanthropic participation
Steer and support the Alumni Association
Cultivate positive relationships with parents, alumni, and neighbors of the school
Establish strategic partnerships to further the mission of the school
Event Management
Proactively lead signature fundraising and community events (the Holiday Fair, Annual Benefit, and Grandparents Day), propose new revenue generation opportunities, and meet established fundraising and event budget goals.
Assume responsibility for meeting the event fundraising goals including sponsorship, donated items, and stewardship ensuring event supporters are cultivated and appropriately recognized.
Serve as lead in all pre-event, on-site event, and post-event tasks, including budgets and track event finances including fundraising, sponsorship, donor management, check requests, invoicing, and reporting
Propose new ideas to improve the event planning and implementation process
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required
5+ years of experience in development - annual giving, major gifts, and/or campaigns, preferably in an independent school or university setting
An accomplished front-line fundraiser
Proficiency with Databases, Word, Excel, MailChimp, PowerPoint, and
social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram
Ability to adapt to new technology as required
Proven management skills and experience
Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
Demonstrated strong written and verbal communications skills required
Ability to multi-task and manage numerous projects simultaneously
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively
Ability to innovate and adopt a growth mindset to problem solving
