Curative Education Teacher
Waldorf School of New Orleans is seeking a part-time (15-20 hours/week) Curative Education teacher for the 2022/2023 School Year.
Required Qualifications:
-Two or more years of experience in working with students with Special needs.
-A commitment to receive training in Curative Education with Robyn Brown at the Mulberry Center for Curative Education.
-Current knowledge of New Orleans practices regarding Special Education and Student support.
-Excellent communication skills with colleagues and families.
Preferred Qualifications:
-Curative Education Training
-Movement Education background and/or experience (therapeutic gymnastics, spacial dynamics, other)
Primary Function:
-To objectively observe children in the classroom and school environment and implement Curative Education strategies of support
-Small group and/or individual work with children and teachers
-To guide families in completing outside assessments
-Organizing Tutors through Title 1
-Coordinating with teachers to implement accommodations
Responsibilities and Duties:
-Implement and integrate Steiner’s Curative Education philosophies including therapeutic gymnastics at WSNO
-Communicate and work with outside of school resources to further support children at WSNO.
-Professional development for teachers to support children in the school environment using a Curative Approach
-Facilitate communication between teachers regarding any plans implemented for a specific student.
-Work with teachers to develop and implement a system of records for students with special needs.
-Update student files for students with special needs.
Additional Responsibilities:
All teachers share responsibility for the well-being of the school. Aspects of this responsibility are:
-Maintaining and striving for an openness to understand and work with the philosophical underpinnings of Waldorf Education and child development.
-Attendance and participation in weekly faculty meetings, as well as certain work days throughout the academic year as scheduled.
-Make themselves available, as appropriate and applicable to their schedule, to offer extra help to students and their parents. This availability will be communicated to the families in the class.
-Attendance/assistance at major all-school activities and open houses whenever possible.
-Attendance at the All School Meetings called by the Board of Directors.
-Maintain and make readily available a lesson plan that can be given to a substitute teacher in the event of an absence.
-Participate in a professional development and accountability plan.
-In the event of a planned absence, make arrangements for a substitute and ensure that they receive any lesson plans and materials needed to cover the missed class(es).
-Abide by the Faculty Handbook to include any and all policies therein.
