The founding board is seeking experienced and inspiring teachers with pioneering spirits to help create the very first public Waldorf high school in Southern Arizona. Desert Sage School’s teachers are masters of their subject. They have an overarching goal to develop students’ intellectual understanding, independent judgment, and ethical ideals. They aim to meet the students’ developing capacity for abstract thought and conceptual judgment. The ideal candidates will have excellent multicultural interpersonal skills, a collaborative leadership style, a deep love and respect for adolescents, and a commitment to making Waldorf education truly accessible to a diverse population by celebrating diversity, embracing equity, and cultivating inclusion. We are looking for teachers in the following subjects: Math, English, Science, Foreign Language, Arts, Movement, and Music. Please share with us what subjects you would be interested in teaching, as well as other skills or areas of the school you may want to be a part of.

Upon hiring, teachers will work immediately with the Pedagogical Director to craft curriculum that is consistent with our mission and in compliance with the school’s charter. In keeping with our Mission to “... celebrate diversity, embrace equity, and cultivate inclusion…”, Desert Sage School intends to hire teachers with diverse teaching backgrounds, as such, Waldorf training will begin the summer prior to school opening.

About the School

Situated in the beautiful Sonoran Desert in the city of Tucson, AZ, Desert Sage School will be the first Public Waldorf high school in Southern AZ and the fifth public high school in the nation that is guided by the principles of Waldorf education. With a small town community feel, a thriving arts scene and countless hiking and biking trails, Tucson is a wonderful place to raise a family. It is also home to the University of Arizona. Desert Sage School will serve students who are seeking a holistic, academically rigorous and arts-infused education. DSS will open with up to 125 students in grades 9 and 10, and grow to a maximum of 425 students in grades 9 through 12, by year four.


1. Create and maintain a positive and safe classroom environment.
2. Commit to continuous improvement in instructional practices with fidelity to the Public Waldorf approach.
3. Commit to culturally responsive teaching and educational equity, with knowledge and experience in meeting the needs of students with different experiences, languages, and backgrounds.
4. In collaboration with the Student Services Director, ensure compliance with SPED plans such as IEP’s, 504’s, and other related mandates.
5. Develop time frames for unit plans and Main Lesson Blocks to guide the pacing of the curriculum, to ensure that all standards are met by the end of the year.
6. Participate in Professional Development, faculty meetings, and regular collaborative meetings as scheduled.
7. Work in collaboration with the Pedagogical Director, Arts Director, Student Services (SPED) Director, and Educational Assistants, ensuring that the needs of each student are being addressed and met.
6. Work in collaboration with the Pedagogical Director and other core subject Teachers to develop an enriching and collaborative curriculum.

9. Waldorf training and/or a commitment to continued Waldorf training
Arizona teaching certificate, Waldorf certificate, or equivalent preferred.

Salary (exempt): $37,000 – $45,000 [based on education and experience]

Time Commitment:
This position begins during the summer with Waldorf Teacher Training. Occasional weekends, evenings, and overnights throughout the year will be required.
