Position: Interim 5th grade teacher (5/6 loop position) - Starting March 2022
Supervised by: Education Coordinator and the Executive Director

PVS is a public charter school in the Portland Public School District, serving approximately 425 students in grades K-8. PVS provides a public education that follows the seven core principles of the Alliance for public Waldorf education, enlivened through artistic expression, and encompassing a rigorous curriculum that is rich in literacy, language, history, and cultural studies combining real world experiences and applied knowledge. About the Position
Interim 5th grade teacher in a 5/6 loop
The successful candidate will take over this teaching position for the remainder of the fifth grade year and is invited to apply to the permanent position and loop with the children to sixth grade for the 22-23 SY.
Our teacher promotes and develops successful learning for students, performs instructional and related duties in accordance with Portland Village Waldorf Charter and Portland Public School District policies. The teacher also maintains a cooperative professional attitude with staff, parents, and students. Our teachers cultivate and model a collaborative and respectful working and learning environment.
Prepare effective classroom lessons for students with goals and objectives aligned to growth outcomes
Provide a variety of classroom teaching techniques and methodologies to support all learners
Utilize Waldorf inspired curriculum aligned to Common Core State Standards for daily teaching
Promote high levels of academic and socio-emotional learning for all students
Monitor student learning utilizing formal and informal, summative and formative assessment to ensure growth and development
Maintain accurate student grades and grade books at all times
Collaborate with colleagues and parents to support student growth and professional learning
Implement Positive Behavior Support Systems in the classroom utilizing clear expectations and guidelines with enforceable corrective actions in line with school wide PBIS and Restorative Justice systems
Organize field trips, library and park walks with lead teachers and administration
Maintain a personal program of professional growth and personal development
Cultivate and model a respectful working and learning environment
Demonstrate professionalism and appropriate judgment manner for the assignment and work setting
To be able to organize, supervise and recruit activity and classroom volunteers
Ability to model, utilize and message to families Waldorf inspired practices within the classroom, including:
Very limited and intentional use of media
Development of wonder, reverence, respect and gratitude
Focus on developing a balanced child and self development
Willing to incorporate art across content in a variety of mediums
Present thematic lessons in a way that speaks to multiple intelligences
Participation in festivals and traditions, sometimes outside of school hours
Teaching to the whole child, including a focus on socio-emotional development
Intention to build a healthy social life among the classroom community (looping model)
Willingness to keep a classroom that is beautiful, organized, and aesthetically pleasing for learning
Degree in Education, Masters preferred
Prior teaching experience preferred
Previous Waldorf experience preferred
Deep understanding of effective math instruction a plus
Ability to work harmoniously with others and take initiative
Excellent written and oral English communication skills
Comfortable with utilizing art, music, song, drama and movement in instruction
Ability to effectively work and communicate with students, parents, and school personnel from diverse cultures or backgrounds in English, Spanish, or other languages related to the job
Experience in differentiated instruction to support all learners
Effective experience with PBIS and knowledge of Restorative Justice practices essential
Demonstrated integrity with staff, parents, and students
Oregon Teaching license or Charter School Registry required
Terms of Employment
Approximately 194 days per year - pro-rated March-June
Monday through Friday
Some evenings and weekends will be required
Summer training may be required
Hours will typically range between 8 am – 4:00 pm and will be determined by the administrator and the needs of the day

Salary range: $44,420 to $58,560 - pro-rated
